Award categories and judging criteria

In all categories, nominations will be used to shortlist candidates but the final decision, giving due weight to nominations, will be made by directors. For 'Kingsley Personality of the Year' the number of nominations by staff, residents’ families and external health professionals will be the sole criterion in determining the winner.

This award is open to all Support WorkersNo need to nominate. The winners from our regional awards become the nominees.

Judging criteria:

  • Will have an excellent understanding of what the resident wants and needs and will share this with their colleagues
  • Will challenge the way things are done in the home using a positive communication style
  • Knows the families and takes time to get to know them and to build a professional relationship
  • Always refers family and staff to the appropriate person to obtain correct information
  • Demonstrates a high level of confidentiality
  • Colleagues will always find this person to seek advice and support
  • Has completed E Learning, NVQ Level 2, NVQ Level 3 (or is working towards this level)
  • Is pro-active in seeking advice about their career progression

This award is open to all Kingsley Healthcare Registered NursesNo need to nominate. The winners from our regional awards become the nominees.

Judging criteria:

  • Demonstrates clinical expertise with other health professionals, colleagues
  • Communicates with families in a way that they can understand
  • Demonstrates empathy with families during end of life
  • Continually makes a difference in residents’ lives
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities
  • Manages the shift effectively
  • Is an advocate for the residents in their care
  • Supports the overseas recruitment for nurses program (if relevant)
  • Actively seeks to improve their skills and knowledge and that of their colleagues
  • Is proactively working towards the next step in their career
  • Can provide evidence of complying with the MNC Code

This award is open to all activities and lifestyle co-ordinatorsNo need to nominate. The winners from our regional awards become the nominees.

Reasons for nominating:

  • The ideal candidate must show flair and imagination in providing a varied and stimulating activities programme
  • They will have a shining personality that charms the residents
  • As well as day-to-day activities, they will show energy and ingenuity in organising special events to engage the wider community

This award is open to all care home support services rolesNo need to nominate. The winners from our regional awards become the nominees.

Judging criteria:

  • Provides evidence of giving a high level of support/customer service to families and residents
  • Continually provides supports with day to day requests/tasks
  • Is confident when communicating with health professionals, senior management team and in emergency situations
  • Develops their own and colleagues skills and knowledge
  • Has an understanding of the Kingsley philosophy
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the home
  • Always turns negatives in to positives and finds solutions
  • Takes part in and supports all the homes activities
  • Always goes the extra mile for both residents and families
  • Provides the home manager with feedback that results in improvements

This award is open to all care home business support rolesNo need to nominate. The winners from our regional awards become the nominees.

Judging criteria:

  • Provides evidence of giving a high level of support/customer service to families and residents
  • Continually supports staff with day to day requests/tasks
  • Is confident when communicating with health professionals, senior management team and in emergency situations
  • Develops their own and colleagues skills and knowledge
  • Has an understanding of person centred care
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the home
  • Always turns negatives in to positives and finds solutions
  • Takes part in and supports all the homes activities
  • Always goes the extra mile for both families and staff
  • Provides the home manager with feedback that results in improvements

Judging criteria:

  • Has obtained a hygiene star rating of 5 for the kitchen
  • Manages the kitchen and all areas relating to food in a professional way
  • Creates a kitchen that is productive and fun to work in
  • Will meet requests when a resident wants something different
  • Gives families confidence that their loved one’s special food needs are being met
  • Provides a menu that meets the needs of all residents
  • Leads and motivates staff in the way that food is served
  • Supports their staff to progress to the next level of their career
  • Takes part in training all staff in the home in relation to food and hygiene requirements when handling food
  • Continually challenges the quality of food from suppliers
  • Continually improves their own abilities

Judging criteria: 

  • Understands the wants and needs of each resident in the home and shares this with colleagues
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude with colleagues, residents, families and visitors to the home
  • Challenges colleagues in relation to work practices
  • Contributes ideas in the home’s activities
  • Continually finds solutions to day to day issues
  • Demonstrates a commitment to learning
  • Will provide feedback to managers in relation to improving work practices
  • Wants to progress beyond their current job role

  • Your shining talent, enthusiasm and commitment are recognised by colleagues around you.
  • You go the extra mile to get things done and are always willing to contribute in new ways.
  • You have ambition to progress within Kingsley and take on new responsibilities

This award is open to all individuals and care home teams.

No need to nominate - finalists decided by the judges based on the criteria.

Judging criteria:

  • Open to individuals and care home teams who have demonstrated local marketing excellence
  • Organising event or other initiative which has beneficially promoted your home to the wider public. Consideration given to imagination and creativity, cost effectiveness and impact in the local media.
  • Demonstrates effective use of good social media with focus on engaging content and excellent photos
  • Demonstrates excellence in customer care from inquiry handling to showrounds, home presentation and post-showround communication

This award is open to teams at Kingsley House and the Canthus Office who provide direct support to our care homes.

  • Consistently going the extra mile 
  • Good, positive communication

  • Evidence of providing support to others within head office
  • Demonstrates a can do, will do attitude
  • Finds solutions to problems
  • Proactively provides support to the group homes
  • Supports the management team
  • Works across various departments within head office
  • Has a knowledge of each department within head office
  • Continually goes the extra mile
  • Leads head office activities (social and charitable events)

This award is open to all Kingsley staff in a supervisory or managerial role

Open for nominations. 

Judging criteria:

  • Demonstrates the Kingsley Vision and values at all times
  • Has made the Kingsley vision come to life in their home/department/region
  • Takes time to explain things to staff
  • Provides feedback in a firm but fair way and leaves the person feeling positive
  • Staff will approach this person for help/support
  • Shares good practice with others
  • Shares new ideas and lets others implement them
  • Gives staff the confidence to progress
  • Volunteers staff for external opportunities within the Kingsley group
  • Supports staff to implement their ideas
  • Challenges and nurtures other managers to be the best they can
  • Challenges policy and procedures to ensure continual improvement and organisational fit

This award is open to all Kingsley staff including Canthus staff

Open for nominations. 

Judging criteria:

  • You can nominate more than one employee including all the directors for any outstanding reason that is worth recognition.
  • Only Kingsley employees can nominate another Kingsley employee.
  • You can nominate more than one employee for different outstanding qualities.
  • Nominate for any reason such as being fun and exciting to work with, has a heart of gold, unbelievably organised, the most punctual person etc.
  • The winners will then be chosen NOT by the judges but by Kingsley employees in an open vote before the awards evening.

This award is open to all Operations and Service Quality Managers and Directors

Open for nominations. 

Judging criteria:

  • Key service quality indicators of your homes eg CQC rating, kitchen hygiene stars etc
  • Profitability of homes
  • Demonstrable ways you have made a positive mark on your homes
  • Effective and positive communication with staff
  • Strong leadership qualities

This award is open to all Kingsley Healthcare Home ManagersNo need to nominate. The winners from our regional awards become the nominees.

Judging criteria:

  • Understands Kingsley's vision, mission and values
  • Understands the business plan
  • Demonstrates the commitment to provide the best possible care to the people we look after whilst meeting their emotional needs.
  • Be able to demonstrate how they have driven their staff to achieve training goals
  • Encourages and supports staff to develop themselves
  • Demonstrates both management and leadership skills
  • Leads by example
  • Supported training and E Learning
  • Gives staff the confidence and supports them to work towards the next stage in their career
  • All departments in the home must be running effectively and communicating with each other
  • Maintained staff levels in line with budget requirements
  • Demonstrates how they have supported overseas staff (if appropriate)

This award is open to all Kingsley Healthcare homes.No need to nominate - finalists decided by the judges based on the criteria.

Judging criteria: 

  • The home has achieved a positive CQC rating and maintained good relationships with all monitoring authority and visiting health professionals.
  • The home has a low turnover of staff (look at reasons)
  • The home demonstrates a commitment to training excellence and staff progression
  • Is able to demonstrate and explain how Person Centred Care is practised in the home.
  • Is able to demonstrate successful implementation of WINGS throughout the home.
  • Is able to demonstrate how they have kept families informed about future activities and plans for the home and how they have provided customer service.
  • The home has maintained commendable viable results over the last 12 months.
  • Is able to gain three different residents/family members who will endorse the home.

Awards selected by Kingsley's directors to honour outstanding work, long service and dedication.

This award will be selected by Daya and Sumi to honour an individual who has shown exceptional commitment to the success of Kingsley.
