Couple celebrate 69th wedding anniversary at Sharston House

Sharston anniversary1

Ken Scott was looking for a summer job in a photographer’s in Manchester when a 16-year-old already working there caught his eye.

That chance meeting blossomed into romance and led to their wedding in Worsley in 1954.

After a lifetime travelling all around the UK and as far afield as Canada, Ken and Rhona Scott settled in Knutsford where last week <12th July> they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary at Sharston House Nursing Home.

The home in Manor Park South, where Ken, 94, has been living for six months, put up banners and balloons for a special anniversary celebration and manager Bindhu Varghese presented the couple with a bottle of bubbly.

Ken, who grew up in Peebles, Scotland, worked as a textiles technologist while Rhona was a home maker, caring for their three children, Michael, Pauline and Yvonne.

Ken’s job took them to London and Scotland and then to Montreal, in Canada, for 10 years.

While they were in Canada, they set up an amateur dramatics club and managed to raise funds to build a community swimming pool.

After moving back to the UK, the couple, who have three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, lived in Wales and Derbyshire before settling in Knutsford.

They enjoyed many interests together such as tennis and bowling and Ken was very keen on football. He played for his local team in Scotland and later became a referee;  Ken also won a public speaking award in America.

When asked what the secret is to being happy together for so long Rhona answered “kindness and good old fashioned beliefs”.
