Buckingham Lodge administrator raises £1,720 in charity sky dive

Buckingham Lodge care home administrator Millie Sadd, 21, completed her first sky dive from 13,000ft and was thrilled to raise £1,720 for Alzheimer’s Society.

Miss Sadd was sponsored by friends and colleagues at the Kingsley Healthcare home in Carbrooke, near Watton and Buckingham Lodge hospitality manager Anita Bell accompanied her to Beccles Aerodrome to cheer her on.

She was strapped to an instructor for the tandem sky dive and confessed she was slightly nervous when the moment came to leave the plane.

“When you leave the plane at 13,000ft, you freefall for 45 seconds and reach a speed of 120mph. At that speed it is difficult to breathe and you have to make some pretty strange faces to get the air into your lungs.

“It was a massive achievement for me because alongside all the fundraising I had to lose a lot of weight to take part. In the end, I lost 2st.”

To support her fundraising, Miss Sadd organised a successful classic car show at Buckingham Lodge and persuaded her colleagues to take part in Alzheimer’s Society’s Denim for Dementia initiative. Everyone donated £1 to the charity to wear denim to work.

Kingsley kicked off her fundraising with a £200 donation.

Miss Sadd, who has worked at Buckingham Lodge since she left school in 2018, said: “I joined the staff as a housekeeper and also helped out in the kitchen and laundry. When I was 18 I began working as a support worker and went on to a senior support worker role. Now I am the home administrator.

“Because I have worked closely with people living with dementia, Alzheimer’s Society is very close to my heart. The charity provides vital support to people living with dementia and their families.”
