Branksome Heights care home tastes award success
Branksome Heights Care Home, in Bournemouth, is in the running for a prestigious national award thanks to the quality of its food and person-centred approach to menu choice.
The Kingsley Healthcare home, in Branksome Wood Road has been announced as a finalist for the National Association of Care Catering (NACC) Care Establishment of the Year award.
Home Manager Rebecca Hebditch and Regional Hospitality Manager Simon Lewis have been invited to the NACC Awards dinner, in Nottingham, on 3rd October, when the winner will be announced.
Mr Lewis, who oversees the dining experience of Kingsley’s three Dorset homes, previously worked as a chef alongside Matt Follas, winner of BBC’s Masterchef in 2009, and he has cooked in the kitchens of the exclusive Monkey Island Estate hotel in the village of Bray, Berkshire.
He said he and the catering team at Branksome Heights took a very person-centred approach and found out residents’ preferences and dietary needs as soon as they arrived in the home.
As well as serving up top hotel standard menus, they took care over every aspect of the mealtime experience, including service and food presentation.
He said: “As part of our submission we explained how food plays an important part in the daily life of the home.
“Residents grow and pick vegetables and herbs in the garden and we have a thriving cooking club in the home.
“At all our Dorset homes, we host Around the World dining experiences, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy the cuisine of different countries.”
