Branksome Heights administrator impresses with her poetry
Karen, one of our administrators at Branksome Heights, in Bournemouth, has a passion for poetry and wrote this lovely poem about settling into care home life.
She said: “I have always written poems as a hobby and it is something that I enjoy doing as a bit of fun. I was inspired by my role here at Branksome Heights. It can be an anxious time for residents (and their loved ones) coming in to a new environment, with many mixed feelings and emotions, and it is so nice to watch residents settle in and bloom in this lovely care setting.”
Karen, pictured with one of our residents, is encouraging other people to write poems that she include in her monthly home newsletter.
I Don’t know why I worried,
It’s really not so bad,
Being in a Care Home,
Though leaving home was sad.
I feel as though a family,
Have wrapped me in their care,
To make me feel most welcome,
Warm and cosy everywhere.
There’s flowers in the lounges,
Crisp White linen on the bed,
Cups of tea a plenty,
I’m deliciously well fed.
The carers are so lovely,
A truly brilliant staff,
They’re caring and hard-working,
And they give me a good laugh.
I’m busy every morning,
There’s always something on.
From singing songs, to Bingo,
You really can’t go wrong.
So here I sit quite happy,
snow-covered garden in my sights.
And feeling most contented,
With my life at Branksome Heights!
