Branksome Heights staff celebrate good CQC report

Branksome heights GOOD CQC

Staff at Branksome Heights care home, in Branksome Wood Road, Bournemouth, are thrilled by their glowing Care Quality Commission (CQC) report. The inspectors who visited the Kingsley Healthcare run home last month found the service to be good overall and good in all five categories, judging it to be caring, safe, effective, responsive and well-led. Home manager Lynne Petty said: “I am delighted by the report.

It’s been a real team effort and I am so proud of all my staff for working so hard to achieve the home’s good rating. “It reflects what the community and health professionals think about us. We are proud to be highly regarded as a friendly home offering really good person centred care. Now we have set our sights on achieving an outstanding rating next time.” Inspectors observed that residents were supported and treated with dignity and respect and involved as partners in their care.

And residents were quick to praise staff, describing them as “kind” and fabulous” and telling the inspectors, “They spoil me”, “They are all very kind to me, they just all are”. The report notes that staff were sensitive and discreet when supporting people, respecting their choices and acting on their requests and decisions. Inspectors observed that people were supported to follow their interests and live fulfilling social lives. “People told us there was plenty to do and we heard about the wide range of ways people filled their time,” says the report. The home’s activities coordinator is described as “passionate about their role, speaking with confidence about the likes and preferences of people”.

Inspectors highlight the home’s compassionate and supportive end of life care, endorsed by feedback from relatives. The report notes that people were supported to eat and drink enough to maintain a balanced diet and residents described the food as “excellent, plenty of it and good choices”. The chef kept a record of people’s dietary requirements so their meals could be appropriately prepared.

Residents told inspectors they felt safe and secure at the home and could rely on staff. The report says staff are well trained and medicines are handled consistently and safely. Inspectors highlight Branksome Heights’ effective management, creating a culture that promotes high quality, person centred care.
