Brooke House Care Home manager nominated for prestigious award

Brooke House Care Home manager Oana Lungan will be cheered on by staff, residents and their families when she competes for the Registered Manager Award at the Great British Care Awards’ East of England final.

She is among 12 managers to be shortlisted for the prestigious award after being nominated by staff and residents’ families and passing a rigorous online interview.

Mrs Lungan, who has worked in social care for 12 years, will travel to the awards in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, on October 30, supported by deputy manager Charlotte Colderwood.

She joined Brooke House, in Brooke, near Norwich, 16 months ago, in her first role as manager, and is proud to have seen the home’s reputation blossom in the community.

“Many of our recent admissions have come from the recommendation of other residents’ families and people living in the local community,” she said.

During the interview she was asked many questions relating to her time as manager, including, “What difference do you think you have made to Brooke House?”.

A mother to two boys, aged seven and 10, Mrs Lungan said she put down her success to always being caring and compassionate and “being there for my staff”.

“Being approachable and listening to staff goes a long way to solving many problems,” she said.

The winners of the regional awards will go through to The Great British Care Awards National Final held in the Spring at the ICC Birmingham (International Convention Centre.)
