Brooke House care home residents' sponsored walk supports cancer appeal
Anyone who wants to support the appeal should visit:
Staff and residents at Brooke House care home, in Brooke Gardens, Brooke, yesterday undertook a fancy-dress sponsored walk to support a charity fund-raising appeal.
They completed 50 laps of the back garden of the Kingsley Healthcare home, formerly the grand family residence of the Mackintosh - of chocolate fame - family.
Cheered on and sponsored by visitors and residents’ families, they were raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Proceeds will be added to the justgiving appeal launched by Nathan West, son of Brooke House support worker Geraldine, in memory of his grandfather John Snowden and grandmother Ann Southgate, who both died of cancer.
Nathan, 32, who lives in Earsham and works for Bungay book production company, Clays, has committed to running four half-marathons during 2024 in support of Macmillan Cancer Support; he has already raised £635 towards his £2000 target.
He said: “I started with my local race, the Bungay Half, in April, and will be running the Swansea Half on June 9, the Great Easter Run in Peterborough, on October 13 and the Sussex Downs Half on December 7.”
The event was organised by activities coordinator Sharon Hillman who said residents “loved the idea and were delighted to take part”.
Home manager Alison Lake wore a rabbit suit to complete her laps.
