Care Quality Commission(CQC) Good rating for Sharston House nursing home!

sharstonhouse cqc good Rating

Staff at Sharston House nursing home in Knutsford are celebrating their rating of Good from the Care Quality Commission. The inspectors who visited the Kingsley Healthcare run home on October 23 found the service to be good overall and good in four out of five categories, judging it to be caring, responsive, effective and safe. Home manager David Costa said: “This is a tribute to the dedication and enthusiasm of all my staff. We are passionate about providing the highest quality care and are delighted this has been recognised by the inspectors.” The latest CQC report describes Sharston House as “comfortable and homely” and Mr. Costa as “very welcoming and evidently caring about people who live there”. Residents are complimentary about the “caring and kind staff”, one telling the inspectors: “I think it is lovely here. A lovely crowd of people work here who do everything I need and I never have to ask.”

The report notes that staff listened actively and attentively when people spoke with them; people’s right to privacy and dignity was respected. The inspectors praise the mealtime experience at Sharston House, noting the tastefully decorated tables and attentive staff. Residents praised the quality and choice of the food, while a family member said: “My relative has put weight on and is looking much better.” The report notes the home’s varied activities programme with everything from pet therapy and arts and crafts to talks by people from the local community and a popular knit and natter group. One visitor told the inspectors: “The activities have really kicked in during the last couple of months.”

The inspectors observed that particular interests and hobbies are catered for – for example one person was assisted to make model aeroplanes. Activities coordinators go the extra mile to help residents keep in touch with loved ones, setting up Skype calls with people as far away as Australia, says the report. The report notes a number of significant improvements since the previous inspection, ranging from the efficient management of medicines to more robust recruitment procedures. Staff praised the open and consultative management style of Mr. Costa, saying it promoted good teamwork and performance.
