Downham Grange staff celebrate glowing CQC report that is good in every category

cqc good rating nursing homes norfolk

Staff at Downham Grange nursing home, in Clackclose Road, Downham Market, are proud of their glowing Care Quality Commission (CQC) report. The inspectors who visited the Kingsley Healthcare run home last month found the service to be good overall and good in every category, judging it to be caring, effective, responsive, safe and well-led.   Home manager Eugene Nyamande said: “I am thrilled by the outcome. It’s been a real team effort to return our home to a good rating and I am proud of all my staff for working so hard.

“It reflects what the community thinks about us. We are proud to be highly regarded as a friendly home offering really good person centred care.” Inspectors reported that the caring attitude of staff stood out and they always made sure residents had everything they needed. They were aware of their individual needs and preferences.

Residents commented positively about staff members, one telling inspectors: “They are all very, very nice and very kind. It’s a very good atmosphere.” Another said: “They know me very well and they know what I can do and can’t do.” Staff respected people’s dignity, privacy and independence, encouraging them to do what they could for themselves.

Residents were complimentary about meal times, one telling inspectors that there was always a choice and that the food was “very nice”.   Another said: “They come around the day before and ask what I want. I could ask for something else then if I did not like what was on the menu.” The report states that the service at Downham Grange is responsive to people’s needs, with care plans regularly reviewed and updated.

A varied activities programme was also in place with one resident telling inspectors they were “never bored”.   Inspectors observed that there were sufficient staff on duty and that they had the skills to meet people’s needs; residents said they felt very safe at Downham Grange. Leadership in the home is also praised, inspectors observing that the manager had taken action to address concerns identified in previous inspections.

“We found there was an improved atmosphere and work ethic in the home,” they said. “We found staff were happy, they like coming to work and they liked and respected the manager.”
