Eliza Palmer Care Home in Surrey achieved top accolade for end of life care
Staff at Eliza Palmer Care Home, in Hersham, Surrey, are celebrating reaching a major milestone in end of life care excellence.
Home manager Rimi Sidhu and former deputy Jo Nigoumi were joined by Kingsley Healthcare’s end-of-life training specialist Emma Hammond at the Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Conference and Awards Ceremony in Birmingham.
Eliza Palmer Care Home was recognised for achieving Platinum Status, meaning staff had not just met the high standards required for GSF accreditation but had sustained and embedded those standards over time.
The event recognised over 170 health and social care organisations for their commitment to high-quality end-of-life care, awarding GSF Accreditation and Reaccreditation Awards.
The GSF is a UK-based charity and training provider that helps frontline staff deliver gold standard care for people in the last years of life.
Mrs Sidhu said: “There was lot of work involved in reaching the standard. To achieve the GSF standard involves sensitive conversations with residents and their family to put advance care plans in place that meet the needs and wishes of the individual. When you think of your future what’s really important to you.”
Mrs Hammond added: “It’s about making sure we are listening to the heart and the head to provide a holistic approach and look at the person and not just the illness. The commitment of staff at Eliza Palmer has ensured that our residents are supported to both live well and die well, with dignity, compassion and excellence at every stage.”
Eliza Palmer had already achieved GSF but it was about to lapse when Kingsley acquired the home last year; through hard work, it not only achieved GSF reaccreditation but excelled to reach Platinum Standard.
Mrs Hammond said: “I couldn’t be prouder of Eliza Palmer. The hard work and late nights paid off. This is an area that I am so passionate about and want to spread this passion and commitment to all our homes. Achieving the Gold Standards Framework reflects years of commitment, compassion, and an unwavering determination to provide the very highest standard of care. This success is a true testament to the dedication and empowerment our teams bring every single day.”
