Eversley Nursing Home wins Christmas tree competition
The challenge to Kingsley’s 30 homes was to make use of recycled objects and the spectacular results included trees made from books, yoghurt pots and old magazines.
A team of judges led by Kingsley co-founder Sumi Thayan chose Eversley Nursing Home’s creation – a tree made from old newspapers and magazines – as the winner. Katy McWhinney, a support worker at the home in North Denes Road, Great Yarmouth, led the project with residents, building the colourful tree out of loops of paper that were then painted.
Manager Ewa Kujawa said: “Katy used a lot of imagination to create such an unusual tree – you can even still read some of the magazine print!” The runners up were a tree made from old books at Sharston House nursing home, in Knutsford, Cheshire, and one made from recycled yoghurt pots at Oaklands Care Home in Scole, near Diss. Eversley Nursing Home wins £100 for its residents’ funds while the runners-up receive £50.
