Exercise for Mental Health Day
At Brackley Care Home we offer a varied selection of exercises for our residents to participate in – from chair exercises, Love to Move as well as yoga classes hosted by two different instructors. We all know that exercise is good for you, it is just a matter of making it into a regular habit and doing it as often as one can. In an aging population, exercise has multiple benefits and has been shown to prevent disease, lower the risk of falls, improve mental health and well-being, strengthen social ties and improve cognitive function. Mary told us that she had never been partial to exercise classes, since joining in at Brackley Care Home, although a bit reluctantly to start with, she always felt so much better mentally and physically after she had participated in an exercise session. Every year on the 10th October we celebrate Mental Health Day and our own focus this year is “Exercise for the Brain” – where we encourage exercise as we know that it improves mental health by reducing anxiety and depression and improves self-esteem and brain health.
