Free social events at Buckingham Lodge care home aim to lift spirits after pandemic
Buckingham Lodge nursing home welcomed older people from the wider Watton area on Wednesday to the first of its free monthly series of social events.
The visitors joined residents for Soup, Sandwich, Coffee and a Chat from 2pm to 5pm.
Anita Bell, hospitality host at the Kingsley Healthcare home in Carbrooke, said: “We had a really good afternoon. Everyone who attended had a really nice time.
“They were chatting and laughing together and really enjoyed the entertainment. They all said how nice it was to meet and talk to new people and were looking forward to coming back for the next one.”
She said it had been a tough time for many people during the pandemic and staff had wanted to do something to lift the dark clouds in the run-up to Christmas.
The next event will be a cinema afternoon with popcorn, candyfloss and ice cream taking place on November 24th from 2pm to 5pm.
A vintage film will be screened in the home’s cinema room followed by coffee and a chat.
On December 22, visitors will be invited to a Christmas Experience from 2pm to 5pm.
People will be able to enjoy a Christmas roast with mulled wine and mince pies and there will be entertainment with music.
