Happy 100th Birthday Arthur!
Everyone at Woodlands Lodge was delighted to celebrate resident Arthur’s 100th Birthday and send very special ‘Happy Birthday’ messages. Arthur was born on the 18th December 1925.
He joined the royal navy on 23rd June 1943 at HMS Raleigh and was a Normandy veteran. When Arthur joined the Royal Navy he was only 17 and a half, the youngest member of a group of about 30 recruits, despite his young age he was appointed class leader.
Arthur met Joyce at a dance when she was only 16 years old and following their wedding at Holy trinity Church in Gee Cross in Hyde, they spend 73 years together before Joyce sadly passed.
Arthur and Joyce spent time in Hyde, Manchester, where they were both born. They moved about the UK with Arthur’s job, before settling in Formby.
Arthur retired as a Principal Customs Officer for the Civil Service in 1985.
Arthur and Joyce had one daughter called Penny, who was born in Ireland. She married Brian, they have a daughter called Samantha, and son named Richard, 3 greatgrandchildren, Oakley, Byron and Autumn.
