Hatching chicks enthral Brackley residents

The age old adage of what comes first, the chicken or the egg remains unanswered but every year we take delivery of 7 eggs, incubators, cage and food to be able to witness the miracle of the birth.

We were told that we might hear cheeping from inside the eggs prior to hatching and that the chicks will have to peck hundreds of times to get out of their egg and they do so by cutting themselves a “door” with their “egg tooth” which is a sharp point at the end of their beaks which falls off quickly after hatching. We all became "mother hens" watching and anxiously waiting for the chicks to hatch and for most of us, this was a first time experience.

Linda said that she felt so maternal when the chicks hatched as she had been there from the start of the hatching process.
