Imogen's wedding highlights recreated for grandfather in The Depperhaugh Nursing Home
Michael Sadler, 87, was unable to attend his granddaughter’s wedding due to poor health – but that did not prevent bride Imogen Beaumont sharing the highlights of her big day with him.
Weeks after her mid-summer ceremony at the Garden Barn, Little Bradley, near Haverhill, the Suffolk County Council worker put on her wedding dress a second time and visited him at The Depperhaugh Nursing Home, in Hoxne, near Eye.
Joining Imogen and her husband Kieren, both 26, were the bridesmaids from the day, Amelia and Harriet, Imogen’s mother Sam Whomes, and other members of the family.
Debbie Reeve, manager at the Kingsley Healthcare home, said: “Michael used to live in Harleston but he moved to us two years ago after he had a stroke.
“Michael was unable to attend the wedding but Imogen wanted a photograph with her grandfather in her wedding dress to create a cherished memory.
“When this was discussed, we decided to create something a little more special than just a single photograph. Working with Jane Steggall, our lifestyle coordinator, we organised a small wedding celebration at the home, allowing Michael to share a joyful moment with Imogen and Kieren alongside his fellow residents.”
Mrs Reeve provided the bubbly, the home’s chef baked a wedding cake and there were flowers for the bridal party to hold for the photographs; residents made their own buttonholes out of roses from the garden.
Mrs Reeve said: “We are grateful to everyone who helped make the day so memorable. We wish Kieren and Imogen a long and happy marriage.”
She said the lovely smile that came across the face of Mr Sadler, a retired manager at East Anglia firm Chassis Cabs, made it all worthwhile.
Imogen’s mother said: “The team at the home were amazing. They were so thoughtful in what they did to make it a special day.”
