Two Kingsley Healthcare-run care homes have teamed up to spread kindness to carers and isolated older people in Watton and surrounding communities.
Marcia Hughes, activities coordinator at Thorp House, in Griston, and Anita Bell, hospitality manager at Buckingham Lodge, in Carbrooke, have put together a programme designed to bring some autumn cheer to people who may have struggled during the pandemic.
To celebrate World Smile Day (Friday October 1) they have been putting together gift bags that will be given out by local churches to remind carers they are not alone.
Meanwhile, Buckingham Lodge has organised free monthly events for carers and older people, beginning with Soup, Sandwich, Coffee and a Chat from 2pm to 5pm on October 20.
Visitors will be offered entertainment and take part in craft activities and they will be given a gift bag to take away.
A cinema afternoon with popcorn, candyfloss and ice cream will take place on November 24th from 2pm to 5pm.
A vintage film will be screened in the home’s cinema room followed by coffee and a chat.
On December 22, visitors will be invited to a Christmas Experience from 2pm to 5pm.
People will be able to enjoy a Christmas roast with mulled wine and mince pies and there will be entertainment with music.
Mrs Hughes said: “It’s been a tough time for many people during the pandemic and we wanted to do something to lift the dark clouds in the run-up to Christmas.”
To attend the events at Buckingham Lodge, simply ring beforehand on 01953773114 and let them know you will be coming.
