Kingsley Healthcare co-founders Daya and Sumi Thayan were proud to mark the festive season by opening a new Specialist Learning Disability Residential School Facility in Sri Lanka, funded solely by their charity, The Lotus Foundation.

This centre represents a significant step forward in addressing the needs of children and young people with learning disabilities, offering 30 residential placements with full boarding and 20 day school places. It is a space designed to empower its students, fostering learning, growth, and a sense of belonging.

Daya and Sumi, who were joined at the opening ceremony by Senior Finance Executive and CFO - The Lotus Foundation, Suranga Dissanayake, and members of Kingsley’s Colombo-based back office team, both praised the role of the Roman Catholic Church-funded Ladani Foundation in the collaborative project.

Daya said: “This project has been born out of meaningful conversations with Father Neville and his incredible team. For over 28 years, we have had the privilege of working together to create impactful initiatives, and this new facility is a testament to our shared commitment to improving lives. We extend our deepest gratitude to Father Neville and the Ladani Foundation team for their dedication and vision.”

The facility combines the reconfiguration of an existing house with newly built study and workshop spaces, creating an environment tailored to the specific needs of its students. This centre will not only provide education but also instil hope and confidence, filling a much-needed gap in the community.

Sumi said: “We are immensely proud of the exceptional efforts of our Colombo-based Canthus Team, in particular Dulan, Wasantha, Amali, Renuke and the project team, who have ensured this initiative was delivered on time and within budget. Their hard work reflects the values we hold dear - compassion, collaboration and a relentless focus on making a difference.”

Daya added: “At the close of 2024, this opening reflects our unwavering commitment to creating meaningful change through our charitable foundation. This facility is not just a building; it is a cornerstone for a brighter future, where children can realise their potential and live fulfilling lives. We thank all those who made this possible and look forward to continuing this journey of compassion, purpose, and impact.”
