Kingsley Healthcare tops Indeed work wellbeing awards

kingsley healthcare won indeed better work award 2023

Kingsley Healthcare has been ranked the Number 1 company in the UK for work wellbeing by recruiter Indeed in their inaugural Better Work Awards.

The awards saw the national care group top their list ahead of notable brands such as The Body Shop (3rd), Clarks (5th), Jaguar Land Rover (6th) and John Lewis (9th).

Kingsley CEO Daya Thayan, who co-founded the company with his wife Sumi and has grown it from one care home to a national provider employing more than 2,000 staff, said: “This is fantastic news as we look forward to celebrating our company’s 25th anniversary next year. This is all the more important as the group embarks on rapid expansion while retaining the family values that make us different to others.

“We have built our company on family values, placing a huge emphasis on nurturing talent and treating our colleagues well. We are proud to be a Real Living Wage employer and have our own charity, the Kingsley Foundation, which was set up to support staff during difficult times in their lives.”

Chief People Officer Lisa Lock said: “This award is a tribute to all our leaders who have taken care of their teams. Work wellbeing is hugely important to us at Kingsley. During the pandemic we began hosting Kingsley Hero Days to treat our care home staff and we have continued to do that. In addition to this, we have invested heavily in our Kingsley Training Academy to enable our colleagues to benefit from industry leading training programmes.”

For the awards, employers must have received at least 100 unique ratings to be considered. Kingsley Healthcare topped the list with a Work Wellbeing Score of 85 out of a possible 100.

It achieved scores in the top quadrant for each of the four wellbeing measurements employed, judging job enjoyment, contentment, meaningfulness and stress levels.

It was also ranked in the top quadrant for each of the 11 sub-measurements that contribute to the overall score, such as trust, inclusion and management. A singular achievement for a standout employer.

According to Indeed, work wellbeing is now a critical recruitment factor. Its research shows that just 23 per cent of UK workers are ‘thriving’ at work compared to 29 per cent in the US. Workers do not feel energised (51 per cent of respondents) and did not have a sense of belonging (46 per cent) or have trust at work (41 per cent).

Jan-Emmanuel De Neve, director of the Wellbeing Research Centre at Oxford University, said: “Employers… who prioritise wellbeing reap the rewards of higher productivity and improved employee retention and attraction. In turn, this leads to greater business performance.”

Priscilla Koranteng, Indeed’s Chief People Officer, said: “Finding the right job today remains challenging. But what we know is that people want to work for an employer that puts them first. Indeed’s Better Work Awards winners stand out from the rest for truly prioritising work wellbeing.

“When employers create better work, in turn, it leads to better lives for their employees. Indeed’s Better Work Awards recognize the companies that are doing this best by providing an outstanding employee experience. Congratulations to all of this year’s winning employers.”
