Knutsford Resident celebrates 100th Birthday

Sheila Sawyer, a resident at Sharston House Care Home in Knutsford has recently celebrated her 100th Birthday, surrounded by family and friends.
Sheila was born on 9th January in Gorton in Manchester. She grew up and spent most of her life in the Manchester area, attending Spurley Hey School and Ryder Brow School.
When she left school she went into office work and worked for a number of local companies, doing secretarial work, book keeping and generally keeping the offices going. She worked for 32 years for a pharmaceutical manufacturer in Manchester, which she loved.
She met her late husband Lionel and they married in 1948 when she was only 23 years old. She remembers that her mum made her beautiful wedding dress which made her feel extra special on the day. They enjoyed a happy life together and had a daughter Lynne. Sheila now has two wonderful grandchildren.
Sheila and her husband eventually moved to Cheadle before moving the Sharston House Care Home in Knutsford, where she now enjoys regular visits from all her family.
Sheila celebrated her special day with a birthday party and special cake to mark the occasion, surrounded by her loving family and friends, . She was delighted to received a birthday card from King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Asked what has helped Sheila lead such a long and healthy life her daughter Lynne Abel said “We think that lots of love and care from us all, as well as knowing how precious she is to us has helped to keep her going.”

Pauline Parker-Moore, Operations Director, North West Region said “Congratulations to Sheila on becoming a centennial.” She continued “It is an honour and a privilege to help celebrate such a momentous occasion and hope continued “We hope you have many more happy years together.”
