Mayor joins revellers at Queen Charlotte nursing care home fete

qc fete summer 27 aug21 2

Families in Chickerell, near Weymouth, enjoyed a fun-packed afternoon at the Queen Charlotte care home summer fete.

Guest of honour was the Mayor of Chickerell, Elspeth Turner, who enjoyed chatting to residents – she even entered into the spirit of the event by having a glitter tattoo!

The fete raised more than £600 which will be split between Dementia UK and the residents’ funds which pays for extra activities and outings.

Moira Stevens, manager of the home in Chickerell Road, said: “We were very fortunate with the weather – the sun came out for us and it only started raining when we had finished.

“More than 20 families from the local area came along as well as the families of staff and residents.”

Visitors enjoyed going around the stalls which included a successful tombola and raffle as well as bric-a-brac, tea and guess-the-weight-of-the-cake stalls.

There were popular games for children, including hook a duck, and a barbecue selling burgers and hot dogs.

Mrs Stevens said: “We would like to thank local businesses which were very generous in donating raffle prizes.”

She said they had chosen to support the charity Dementia UK, which provides specialist dementia support, because it was a cause close to their hearts, many residents living with dementia.

“I have received a lovely letter from the Mayor saying she really enjoyed her afternoon with us,” said Mrs Stevens.
