Newly opened Swaffham House Care Home proud to be part of community project
Staff from newly refurbished Swaffham House Care home in Jack Boddy Way, Swaffham were proud to attend and be a part of the official opening ceremony of the town’s new Community Fridge
The facility, located in the foyer of Swaffham Community Centre, will stock a range of donated food to support people across the age spectrum who may be facing hardship.
Run by Catherine White, manager of the Iceni Partnership, with a team of volunteers, it will help to provide free support to people who may find it easier to access than they would using a foodbank due to the stigma sometimes associated with needing help.
It will also reduce food waste with an estimated saving of 16,000kg of food, equivalent to 38,000kg of carbon dioxide in just one year.
“Community engagement and partnership working are at the heart of all our care homes, including our newest one in the East, in Swaffham,” said Marcia Hughes, Kingsley’s Regional Customer Relations Manager.
“As a B Corp certified company, we were proud to be a part of this vital support network by making a contribution to the Iceni Partnership to help it provide support to some of the most vulnerable in our society.”
The space was officially opened by Cllr Jacob Morton, the Community Fridge Project Manager (Iceni Partnership) along with other Swaffham Town Council and Breckland Council officials.
“It is important for the staff and residents of Kingsley care homes to play a central role in their wider community,” said Stephen Pullinger, Marketing and Customer Relations Director. “We look forward to Swaffham House continuing to being an integral part of the Swaffham Community.”
