On Thursday 2nd February 2023, children and teachers from Oulton Broad Primary School paid a visit to the residents of a local care home to celebrate World Book Day. The aim was to encourage a love of reading and to promote intergenerational relationships.

The children, who were aged between seven and 11, spent the morning reading stories and poems to the elderly residents. The atmosphere was lively, with lots of laughter and chatter as the young readers brought the stories to life. The residents were thrilled to have the children visit, and many commented on how much they enjoyed listening to the stories.

One resident, Josie Lambert, said; "It was so lovely to see the children today. They were so polite and read beautifully. I really enjoyed listening to them." Another resident, Paula Howells, added; "It's wonderful to see the younger generation taking an interest in books. I think it's so important to encourage children to read, and events like this are a great way to do it."

The visit was also covered by a reporter from BBC Radio Suffolk, who spoke to some of the children and residents. The children spoke about their favourite books and characters, while the residents talked about their memories of reading when they were young.
