Preserving History Today to Inspire Tomorrow!
We were absolutely thrilled to welcome the Diss and Scole Parish Councillors, Diss Town Mayor and individuals from the community to the home yesterday to celebrate our Time Capsule Burial. This was a wonderful joyful day of community and togetherness.💜To conclude a project that has kept us busy at the home for months.
Inside The Oaklands and Scole Community Time Capsule, can be found, letters from residents to the future generations, personal photos and pictures of Scole past and present, drawings and toys from local Scole Primary School children, Roman pottery found in Scole, military memorabilia from staff and other personal photos and items, local artwork, residents families ration books and war time items. There is also a newsletter, detailing the project and our findings as a guide for those digging the capsule up in 50 years.
A massive thank you to Roella Trudgill , Dennis Noble, David Hill, Sue Auckland and Frances Cormac whose insight into Scole was so valuable and we have so enjoyed connecting with the lovely Scole Community.
During this project we have reminisced with the residents about times gone past and memories of the local area, as well as learning so much more about the villages and homes history. It has been wonderful to look to the future and chat about what we think Scole/Oaklands will look like in 50 years time! 🏡
It was wonderful to have Sue Clarke with us for the burial. Sue worked at the home before it was Oaklands, known as Scole Lodge, the home was previously a care home run by the Adam’s family. Sue brought with her a photograph picturing herself and some of the homes previous residents in front of our great Pine tree. Under this Pine tree we have now buried the time capsule, so this was a fantastic full circle moment. 🌳
