Queen Charlotte Care Home brings Bridgerton to its jubilee fete
A jubilee fete at Queen Charlotte Nursing Home, near Weymouth, from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, June 4, will celebrate the historic building’s links to a Royal from the Bridgerton area.
Staff at the Kingsley Healthcare home, in Chickerell Road, Chickerell, will be dressing up in 18th century costume to honour a connection to Queen Charlotte, wife of King George 111 and a central character in the popular Netflix drama.
The Grade two listed building is reputed to have once been the residence of Queen Charlotte.
The home’s family liaison officer, Anthea Ashton, said: “We wanted to celebrate our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a great event for local families that would also pay homage to our own Royal connections.
“We are inviting visitors to wear red, white and blue for the occasion if they wish and we will be giving out prizes for the best three outfits!” The fete in the home’s gardens will be opened by Chickerell’s Deputy Mayor-Elect Cllr Mike Jolliffe who will be accompanied by his escort, Cllr Lyn Wise.
There will be a variety of old-fashioned fete games, bric-a-brac stalls and a barbecue. Weymouth’s Amberlight Majorettes will be performing in the morning and there will be musical entertainment in the afternoon. There will be a raffle with impressive prizes, including a luxury hamper. Mrs Ashton said: “Proceeds from the event will go the RNLI in recognition of the important work they do around our coastline.”
