Queen Charlotte Care Home's Burns Night party is a community success

Staff and residents at Queen Charlotte Care Home in Chickerell invited the community in for a lively Burns Night celebration on Sunday afternoon.

Party goers enjoyed delicious Scottish-themed canapés, including minute portions of haggis, neeps, and tatties, smoked salmon and tattie scones, Scotch eggs, and mini-Scottish chicken pastries.

Meanwhile, there was dancing and singing along to the Celtic folk band Murphy’s Lore as well as traditional bagpipe music from Keith the Piper.

The Scottish theme was continued with a visit by Shetland pony Tiny Tim.

Home manager Mark Grundonner, who recited poetry by Robert Burns, said: “I have never seen so many people inside Queen Charlotte. We had a great attendance, and it was a memorable afternoon for everyone.”

The event had special significance for Diana Davis, one of Queen Charlotte’s residents, who is proud of her Scottish roots and wore her Barclay family kilt for the occasion. Her mother lived in Banff Bridge, a Scottish fishing village, and her grandfather was the editor of the Banff Journal for more than 20 years.
