RNLI visit to Buckingham Lodge Care Home
James Betteridge, a crew member from RNLI Wells, was joined by lifeboat press officer Jess Curtis on a visit to Buckingham Lodge Care Home near Watton.
Mr Betteridge, navigator on the station’s all-weather lifeboat and helm on the inshore lifeboat, was accompanied by his dog Stanley.
The residents were interested to hear stories about the lifeboat and its role and extra nautical fun was added by the home’s pirate-themed party.
“Keeping our residents feeling connected to the local community is so important to us all at Kingsley Healthcare”, said Marcia Hughes, Regional Community Engagement Coordinator, who helped the home arrange the day,“not just to help them in maintaining local friendships but also to feel part of the wider society such as the RNLI – things that they once enjoyed or may have been part of.”
The home has committed to ongoing fundraising for Wells RNLI.
The Pirate themed day included music from Lucy Short, a singer based in Norwich, who performed songs from across the decades under the name of “Sheila Seashells”.
Robert “Lud” Lister, who resides at a neighbouring Kingsley Healthcare Home Thorp House in the village of Griston, joined residents for the day and enjoyed the morning’s swashbuckling antics followed by a hearty Fish & Chip lunch.
Buckingham Lodge, in Buckingham Close, Carbrooke, near Watton, prides itself on its community events with the next one planned for Saturday 4th October 11 – 3pm – a Harvest and European Food Market with Craft Stalls, Polish Food Stall and Afternoon Music from Svetla, an accomplished Accordion musician from Bulgaria.
