Staff at Lilac Lodge and Lavender Cottage care home in Gorleston Road, Oulton Broad, are celebrating their good Care Quality Commission report. The inspector who visited the Kingsley Healthcare run home on September 18 found the service to be good overall and good in all five categories, judging it to be safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Home manager Zena Stotter said: “This is a tribute to the dedication and enthusiasm of all my staff. We are passionate about providing the highest quality care in a homely environment and are delighted this has been recognised by the inspector.” Residents told the inspector that staff were kind and caring towards them, one saying, “The carers I get are very good, nothing is too much trouble for them,” another describing how they were “so polite”.

The report notes that staff showed a genuine interest in residents and their daily lives and engaged with them in a “thoughtful and considerate way”. The inspector observed that carers were up-to-date in their training and this was reflected in comments by residents and their families who said, “I do think they are well trained and know what they are doing”. People’s capacity to make decisions was assessed appropriately and care plans reflected what decisions they could make independently, said the report. The inspector highlighted the positive comments made by residents about the quality of their food and the support provided by staff at mealtimes.

One said: “The food is brilliant here and I really enjoy it. There is also a good choice and if you don’t like what’s on offer they will make you something else.” Improvements had been made to the quality of activities on offer at the home and a second activities coordinator had been recruited, said the report. The report finds that Lilac Lodge is well led with residents making positive comments about the manager Zena Stotter and deputy manager Hanna Pajchrowska. One said: “The manager and her deputy are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble.”

Meanwhile, a family member said: “The manager is very helpful and will always try to make it happen.”
