Staff from Spring Lodge Care Home surprised and delighted local Shotley residents by distributing cupcakes around the area last week. They visited local residences, shops, pubs and the local surgery to give out a small act of kindness to people during these difficult times.

"We just wanted to make people happy," said Emily Cannel, Spring Lodge activities coordinator. "We know there are still some elderly people shielding, or not going out as much so we knocked on doors at random.

"We also wanted to say thank you to those businesses we know have done so much for the community, like the staff at the shop, surgery and pubs."
