Up Close & Personal WW2 reminiscence for residents at Buckingham Lodge
A fascinating morning reminiscent at Buckingham Lodge for residents who witnessed WW2 either as children or in the forces as service men and women as they were taken back to the 1940’s with a visit from Norfolk Military Vehicle group
Formed in 1977 the 200 plus group who are passionate about “keeping history alive” spoke about their willingness to restore and preserve Military vehicles which are often are found in many parts in boxes at the back of sheds or rusting in fields taking “many winters” to restore

The group whose President is General Lord Dannatt is also part of The Muckleburgh Collection and Norfolk Tank Museum
The residents had the opportunity to look around a WW2 Willys MB Jeep, imported from Australia, restored in 1957 with amazingly not much required since as well as a Humber Heavy Utility Desert vehicle which seated Joanna Lumbley in the 1998 mini-series Coming Home
Whilst a "Jimmy" US Military Truck especially fascinated mechanically minded 96-year-old Charles “Ted” Williamson who served in Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME)
“I really enjoyed looking around the vehicles,” said Ted Williamson “took me right back to my tinkering days”
