Weymouth Manor launches memory cafe with expert help on hand

Weymouth Manor Care Home is launching a monthly support group for people living with dementia and their carers.

The memory cafe will be hosted at the home in Radipole Lane, Weymouth, on the last Monday of every month from 10.30am to noon. The first session will be on Monday, October 27.

The home’s Customer Relations Manager, Matt Folley, said: “Weymouth Manor was acquired by Kingsley Healthcare in the summer and we wanted to celebrate its new chapter by hosting an event that will have real value for the community.

“We know of many people living with dementia who are being cared for by family members in their own homes. This will be an opportunity for them to come along and enjoy companionship and a good chat.”

The sessions will be led by Admiral Nurse Noela Chituh who has been trained by the charity Dementia UK and works out of Kingsley’s care homes across Dorset.

Matt said: “For most carers, dementia is a journey into the unknown and one that can bring many challenges. Noela will be on hand to offer expert advice and reassurance.”

The café will offer free tea, coffee and cakes and the home’s activities team will be putting on activities during the morning.

Matt said: “We also plan to invite topical speakers at the sessions, for example local community health professionals who will be able to talk about what support there is available for people living with dementia and their carers.”
