Around the World Taste Sensation for Newly Elected Downham Mayor

World Culture Day (21st May) with a theme of “Culture connects us all" seemed like the perfect opportunity for residents from Downham Grange Nursing Home in Downham Market to invite and meet newly elected Downham Market Town Mayor Cllr Barrie Wiles.

A selection of foods from eleven countries was served including a home made Guiness Cake for Ireland and Sernik, a traditional Cheesecake baked by Beata Ciesielska originally from Poland.

Bulgarian Accordionist Svetla along with her husband Stuart Muscroft played a variety of tunes from Around the Mediterranean taking everyone on a trip around the World all from the comfort of their armchairs.

“Days like this are so important to the home”, said Regional Community Engagement Coordinator Marcia Hughes “they take residents back to memories of holidays or dreams of travel” “Care homes now are such vibrant places for everyone to enjoy”

Whilst Cllr Wiles said “how much he had enjoyed the morning with delicious food”
