Kingsley takes part in national trial of digital technology

Kingsley Healthcare has been taking part in a national trial to test the use of digital technology for communication in care settings. NHSX, the digital arm of the health service, has partnered with Facebook for the pilot, using the Facebook Portal device. All of Kingsley’s care homes around the country have been given the device so residents can keep in touch with their family during the Coronavirus lockdown.

Kingsley Healthcare has again touched the lives of children thousands of miles away through its Christmas card. For the bright Christmas tree design, created by Colombian school pupil Susan Montoya Garxon, symbolises the latest project undertaken by Lotus Children’s Foundation, a charity set up by Kingsley Healthcare founders, Daya and Sumi Thayan, to support children and families at home and abroad.

Staff at Kingsley’s office in Sri Lanka, Canthus Management Services, organised the distribution of 600 free food packs to people in the community. The gifts, funded by Kingsley founders Daya and Sumi Thayan, were given out to celebrate Poson Poya Day, an important Buddhist holiday.

Report on charity’s vital work to improve the lives of poor families in Sri Lanka

Kingsley Healthcare founders Daya and Sumi Thayan witnessed the devastation of the tsunami on Boxing Day 2004 while they were staying at the Sri Lankan resort of Bentota. Responding to the disaster, which resulted in 60,000 people being declared dead on the island with many more unaccounted for, they set up the Lotus Foundation in February 2005, a registered UK charity to support those affected.

Head office staff promoted the charity by handing out leaflets at Tesco’s superstore in Corton while a successful food collection was held at Kingsley House. About 20 staff members worked at the foodbank on two hour shifts packing food boxes.
