Love Storey has a very happy ending thanks to care home

A bride and groom, who were so determined the mother of the bride could play a leading role in her day despite recovering from a stroke, have exchanged vows at her nursing home. After six months of meticulous planning, Jeanette Blanchett, 28, and Alex Storey, 33, were married at a register office in Stowmarket on Thursday and then exchanged vows at The Depperhaugh, Hoxne, near Eye, so her mother, Linda, could be part of the special day. She has lived in the home for more than year after suffering a stroke 16 months ago.

The new Mrs. Storey, a children’s nanny, said it had been 'a very special day'. 'When my mum first went into the home I asked how we could manage getting her out for my wedding,' she said. 'I was told that would not be a problem to arrange but the manager, Alison Fallowfield, said we would also be welcome to hold the wedding at the home and it all started from there, really.' After the ceremony, Jeanette said: 'It has been fantastic, a really lovely day.

It was a lot more special than I even expected it to be. 'The organisation on the home’s part was beyond belief. it was these little touches that I didn’t expect at all Jeanette , pictured right with her new husband Alex and mother Linda they decorated with bunting and had put ribbons and flowers all through the grounds. 'It was these little touches that I didn’t expect at all. I had a wander through the home and the residents commented on my dress and spent the day with my mum which was the most important thing. 'She really enjoyed it. 'I was so honoured I was allowed to do the wedding at the nursing home. It was a very special day.'

The vows were exchanged inside a marquee in the gardens of the home, which was built in the 1860s at the family home of Admiral Sir Baldwin Wake Walker. The couple’s one-year-old daughter, Aurora, was brides maid. Jeanette moved from Suffolk to Portsmouth to be with her fiancé, a mental health care support worker.
