The richness of local photographic talent impressed Mayor of Downham Market

The richness of local photographic talent impressed Mayor of Downham Market Marion Ross as she opened an exhibition at the town’s Downham Grange nursing home. Members of King’s Lynn Photography Group and Wisbech Camera Club put on a stunning display of landscapes, townscapes and wildlife.

The creativity of the exhibitors gave a fresh perspective to many familiar and much loved local scenes. And the display, open for public viewing throughout the bank holiday weekend, had a special purpose for the residents of the Kingsley Healthcare-run home in Clackclose Road. Kingsley’s head of service quality Gary Foley said: “What we call reminiscence therapy can be enormously helpful for people living with dementia. “Many of our residents at Downham Grange used to live around the Fens and encouraging them to remember things from their past can raise self-esteem, lift their mood and improve communication.”

Prizes were put up by Kingsley Healthcare and architectural firm Feilden and Mawson, responsible for Downham Grange’s acclaimed modern design.   The winner of the £100 top prize was King’s Lynn Photography Group’s founder, Tracey Robinson, who submitted an evocative view of Bawsey Ruins.   Second prize went to Wisbech club’s Roger Newark for his studied portrait of Snow on the Sixteen Foot and third prize went to King’s Lynn Group’s Steve Palmer’s view of Old Hunstanton beach huts, Daytime Only.

The judges included David Farrow, of Feilden and Mawson, Surrey Beddows, former head of news at Anglia and Stephen Pullinger, head of PR at Kingsley.
