Exhibition to bring back memories for Downham Market, Downham Grange care home residents

downhammarketphotoexhibition

A series of photos due to go on display at a Downham care home next month will hope to serve a special purpose for residents. The images of the Fens’ landscapes, towns and wildlife, which will be exhibited at Downham Grange from the evening of Friday, August 26, are designed to bring back memories for those living with dementia.

Manager of the Clackclose Road home Annabel Banister said: “What we call reminiscence therapy can be enormously helpful for people living with dementia. “Many of our residents used to live around the Fens and encouraging them to remember things from their past can raise self-esteem, lift their mood and improve communication.”

The collection of photos were taken by members of King’s Lynn Photography Group and Wisbech Camera Club, and will open with a private viewing for exhibitors, sponsors and local dignitaries. Members of the public will then be invited to view the exhibition over the bank holiday weekend.

Tracey Robinson, who launched King’s Lynn Photography Group, said: “Our members are really looking forward to showing their work and have been putting a lot of effort into this exhibition.” Architectural firm Feilden and Mawson, along with Kingsley Healthcare who run the home, have donated prizes for the best three images, to be determined by a panel of judges. Secretary of Wisbech Camera Club David Hodgson said: “There is tremendous interest in photography around the area and this is a great opportunity to showcase local talent.”
