A charity spin-a-thon at Highcliffe Nursing Home raised more than £400 for the Alzheimer’s Society. The Mayor of Christchurch, Trish Jamieson, came to watch the afternoon of fun at the Stuart Road home in her first week in office. Staff and residents’ relatives took it in turns on spinning bikes and kept going for six hours from noon to 6pm. Families from the wider community were invited to attend the event which also included a cake stall, raffle and singing from vintage artist Retro Rita. Mrs Jamieson said she enjoyed coming to the event, held to mark Dementia Awareness Week, and pledged to make a return visit to the Kingsley Healthcare run home. A representative of the Alzheimer’s Society will be invited to attend the home for the residents to present a cheque. Manager Tracey Millar said: “Many thanks are due to the local community who donated raffle prizes.” CAPTION: Councillor Mrs Trish Jamieson, Mayor of Christchurch greeted by home manager Tracey Millar and Denise Cracknell, senior support worker, on the spinning bike.
