Paige Parker, activities coordinator at Branksome Heights care home, in Branksome Wood Road, Bournemouth, has won Kingsley Healthcare’s Easter cake competition. Competing against nearly 30 other care homes in the national care homes group, Paige impressed judges with her “Branksome burrows” and Easter bunny theme.

She said: “Competition was tough from the other homes and I am thrilled to have won. Our residents and staff are now looking forward to seeing if it tastes as good as it looks!”   Joint runners up were an Easter rabbit-themed cake baked by Rachel Hadley, deputy manager of Brooke House care home, in Brooke, near Norwich, and an ingeniously designed cake with motorised, spinning Easter eggs created by Andy Gray, chef at Spring Lodge care home in Woolverstone, near Ipswich.

Branksome Heights wins £100 for its residents’ fund, for extra activities and outings, while Spring Lodge and Brooke House both win £50.   Head judge Sumi Thayan, Kingsley co-founder and operations director, said: “The standard was so high, it was difficult deciding the winners.

I especially want to mention the cakes from Thorp House and Redwalls Nursing Home which both made the final shortlist.”
