Queen Charlotte Nursing Home, near Weymouth, has retained its rating of good following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The inspection, carried out over two days in November and December, concluded that the service at the home, in Chickerell Road, Chickerell, was caring, responsive, effective and safe.

Queen Charlotte’s deputy manager Ann McTeague  said: “We are proud to have retained our good CQC rating which matches the glowing comments many families have made about our staff and service on the Carehome.co.uk review site.” The report states that residents are well treated and supported, respecting equality and diversity; staff were observed engaging with people with kindness, humour and compassion. Residents described staff as “kind” and “very nice”.

Inspectors noted that the service was committed to enhancing and promoting dignity; during a recent “Dignity Week” people had enjoyed a range of activities designed to promote thought and discussion. The report highlights Queen Charlotte’s wide range of activities and trips out. Residents were encouraged to share their wishes and the activities coordinator worked to make them come true; one person had wanted a meal out and this had been organised at a local pub. Inspectors observed that mealtimes were supported by staff to be a sociable and enjoyable occasion and residents praised the quality and variety of food, one saying: “The food is lovely – really smashing.”

The report observes that the atmosphere at the home was busy but relaxed; residents felt safe and protected from abuse and avoidable harm.
