Sharston House nursing home in Knutsford held a service of remembering on Sunday afternoon to mark the opening of its memorial garden.

A heart-shaped flowerbed is the centrepiece of the garden which has been developed as a permanent tribute to residents and support worker Napoleon Acero who lost their lives during the Covid pandemic of 2020.

The Rev Paul Deacon, of St Cross Church, in Knutsford, led the service of prayers and blessed the garden, the home and its team.

He said: “Almighty God, we come today with thanks and gratitude for the professional dedication of the staff at Sharston House, for the patient kindness and care which flows through the house, down each corridor and into each room.

“For the fresh cleanliness and warmth of welcome which greets each visitor.

“We ask that you will bless each member of the team.”

Staff, residents and their families were joined at the service by relatives of residents who lost their lives to Covid.

Nish Gottlieb, manager of the Kingsley Healthcare run home, in Manor Park South, said: “At the height of the pandemic we sadly lost six residents as well as Napoleon who was a much-loved, long-serving member of staff.

“It was a very difficult period for staff as well as residents and their families who could not see each other because of the lockdown.

“It’s been very important for everyone to create a permanent memorial and the service was a very positive experience. I would like to thank the Rev Paul Deakin and everyone at the church.”
