They are proud to be called the Caring Hikers and Bikers of Allonsfield House!

Staff at the nursing home in Campsea Ashe, near Woodbridge, decided to form a fund-raising group with the aim of organising regular charity bike rides and sponsored walks throughout the year.

Their first event will be a 17-mile bike ride starting from Allonsfield House, next to the village church, at 9.30am on Saturday, October 30.

They are inviting people to sponsor them or join them on the rural ride which is raising funds for Alzheimer’s Society and Orebeck Benefice, the church authority responsible for seven village churches that will be visited on the route.

The home’s hospitality host, Carolyne Hayter, said: “We all work at Allonsfield House and are passionate about our work, our local community and supporting charities that are closely connected to our work.

“We thought Caring Hikers and Bikers would be a brilliant way of bringing staff together while achieving our fund-raising aims an extra benefit is that it will help us all keep fit!”

She said as well as organising walks and bike rides they would be supporting the community in other ways.

“On Sunday (October 17) staff and residents' families will be attending the Harvest Festival service at St John the Baptist Church in Campsea Ashe and donating food to a local food bank,” she said.

Anyone wanting to sponsor their first ride is invited to call the home’s administrator, Erika Clow, on 01728-747095. Donations can be accepted as cash payments, cheques or via bank transfer.

Please call the home in advance if you wish to join the ride as there is a limit on places.
