Allonsfield House nursing home staff pedal their way to charity success

It was very wet and windy but that did nothing to dampen the spirits of the Caring Hikers and Bikers of Allonsfield House!

The newly-formed charity group formed by staff at the Kingsley Healthcare home in Campsea Ashe, near Woodbridge, completed their first fund-raising bike ride in pouring rain on Saturday to support the Orebeck Benefice and Alzheimer’s Society.

The home’s administrator Erika Clow said: “So far we have raised £470 through sponsorship but we are hoping to take it to over £500. There is still time to support us by contacting me at the home before the weekend!”

Their 17-mile ride took in the seven village churches supported by the Orebeck Benefice.

The Rev Canon Graham Hedger met the cyclists at Allonsfield House to see them off.

The home’s hospitality host, Carolyne Hayter, said a sponsored walk would be next on the agenda.

“We will start the walk with a lap round the garden so our residents can join in,” she said.

“We all work at Allonsfield House and are passionate about our work, our local community and supporting charities that are closely connected to our work.

“We thought Caring Hikers and Bikers would be a brilliant way of bringing staff together while achieving our fund-raising aims.”

She said as well as organising walks and bike rides they would be supporting the community in other ways.

For example they had recently attended the Harvest Festival service at St John the Baptist Church in Campsea Ashe and donated food to the local food bank.
