Downham Grange Care Home wins In Bloom competition

john and wendy1

Downham Grange resident John Chapman has been a lifelong gardener so he was the perfect person to coordinate the Kingsley Healthcare care home’s entry in Downham in Bloom.

Town council judges were suitably impressed by the bright displays and creative use of a donated boat and awarded the home first prize in the competition’s community group container category.

Mr Chapman, who was born in Methwold, close to Downham Market, is pictured with activities coordinator Wendy Greeves who helped him create the display using containers and plants donated by staff, families and the local community.

AS well as sharing his wisdom and giving advice on how to present the displays, Mr Chapman has taken an active role in overseeing the whole garden.

A successful vegetable plot has already yielded some delicious courgettes much to the delight of fellow residents.

Town council administrator Jo Andrews said: “Schools take part in our In Bloom competition as well as local businesses. We would love to get more involved next year. The contest is a fabulous idea and gives us a town we can be suitably proud of.”
