Name our lamb to win a farm photoshoot!

allonsfield farm competition

Spring has arrived early at Allonsfield Farm, the unique therapy farm attached to Allonsfield House Nursing Home, in Campsea Ashe, near Woodbridge. Residents are delighted to have seen a number of lambs born during the month of February – and now the public is being invited to name the latest arrival in a competition!

To vote, simply go to the Allonsfield Farm, Allonsfield House or Kingsley Healthcare Facebook pages and pop your name suggestion in the comment section of the competition post.

Voting will close on March 5 when the five name suggestions with the most likes will be presented to the lamb to choose his own name in a Facebook live video on March 6! Farm manager Molly Smith said: “We will stick the names on five food buckets and see which one the lamb goes for.

“The person who chooses the winning name will be able to come along with their family for a meet and greet and photoshoot with the lamb. They will also receive a framed photograph of the lamb, a hoof print and a Kingsley Healthcare hamper.”

The ram lamb, which was born on February 12, is a Norfolk horn; its mother’s name was Belsar Blanc and its father’s name was Gipping Darwin. Miss Smith said: “Farm visits have always been popular with care home residents but we believe we are the only elderly care facility in the country to open its own therapy farm stocked with native breeds.”

She said the farm played a huge role in terms of the wellbeing and mental health of the residents. "The sensory stimulation helps improve the overall mood of people, in particular those with dementia, while easing stress. It provides opportunities to reflect and recall old memories, particularly as some of the residents grew up farming,” she said.

A key aim in establishing the farm has been to establish a facility for the whole community to enjoy and the next farm open day will be on Easter Saturday, April 8 from 11am to 5pm. There will be animal encounters throughout the day with chicks, ducklings and rabbits and the chance to bottle feed lambs. Other attractions will include fete-style games an craft activities; there will be a buffet and gift bags for children.
