Buckingham Lodge administrator jumps to it in her charity fund-raising quest

Buckingham Millie1

Buckingham Lodge care home administrator Millie Sadd, 21, has found a jean-ius idea for increasing her fund-raising for the Alzheimer’s Society.

She has already secured nearly £1,000 of sponsorship to do a sky dive on August 5, but has now persuaded her colleagues at the Kingsley Healthcare home in Carbrooke, near Watton, to take part in Alzheimer’s Society’s Denim for Dementia initiative.

They will donate £1 to the charity to wear denim to work on Thursday, June 15 and, as a sweetener, will receive a doughnut in return!

Miss Sadd, who is a classic car enthusiast, is also helping to organise a classic car show at Buckingham Lodge, from 2pm on Saturday, July 15, with voluntary donations going to Alzheimer’s Society.

She said she was inspired by residents who are living with dementia to sign up to do the sky dive.

Kingsley kicked off her fundraising with a £200 donation and Millie has been reaching out to colleagues, friends and people from the wider community for further sponsorship.

Miss Sadd, who has worked at Buckingham Lodge since she left school in 2018, said: “I joined the staff as a housekeeper and also helped out in the kitchen and laundry. When I was 18 I began working as a support worker and went on to a senior support worker role. Now I am the home administrator.

“Because I have worked closely with people living with dementia, Alzheimer’s Society is very close to my heart. The charity provides vital support to people living with dementia and their families.

“I'm appealing for sponsors to kindly donate a small amount towards my event. Times are hard at the moment but any donation will be greatly received.”

As part of her fund-raising, she held a raffle and said she was “delighted” by the generosity of local businesses in donating prizes.

Among those she wants to thank are: Atlantis Fish Bar, The Original Factory Shop, Pain is Love tattoo studio, Cats Candy Box, Myhills, The Olde Windmill, Areolite, The Greetings Shop, NR Fitness, Full Fitness Gym, Dutch Flower Parade, Tesco, The Stag, Edwards newsagents, Cecil Amey, Adcock’s, Watton Bakery, Little Gary’s Plaice and Eirlys Johnson.
