A 5 kilometre sponsored walk involving staff, residents and relatives from Colne House care home in Earls Colne, Essex, raised about £400. The idea to raise money for the residents’ activities fund had been raised by Kirsten Kilby, 13, daughter of the home’s activities co-ordinator Mags. She joined her mother and other staff, including manager Amanda Schofield and administrator Helen Bragg, on a 1hr 45min trek around the village, pushing four residents in wheelchairs.
Mrs. Schofield said: “Kirsten asked if she could do a sponsored walk for us during the holidays and we thought it would be a great idea for us all to join her. “We wore sashes saying where we were from and we had loads of people looking at them around the village and asking us what we were doing.”
She said they were now consulting staff, residents and their families about what they should spend the money on. “We are thinking about sensory equipment and getting in extra entertainment,” she said. The event finished up with a cream tea in the home's garden.
