Staff at Colne House residential care home in Station Road, Earls Colne, are proud to have maintained their good Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating. The inspectors who visited the Kingsley Healthcare run home last month found the service to be good overall and good in four of the regulator’s five categories, judging it to be caring, effective, responsive and well-led.   Home manager Sue Moreby said: “I am thrilled by the outcome. It’s been a real team effort and I am proud of all my staff for working so hard to once again achieve a good rating.

“It reflects what the community and health professionals think about us. We are proud to be highly regarded as a friendly home offering really good person centred care.” She said they had immediately remedied certain health and safety issues pointed out by the inspectors during their visit. Inspectors reported that people were well treated and had good relationships with staff.   One resident told them: “All the staff are lovely, I am very happy here.

They [staff] look out for you, always checking you are all right.”   The report observes that people’s likes and dislikes were considered in relation to personal care provided and food choices. As well as regular meetings and surveys, the manager organised social events such as fireworks displays and fetes involving residents’ relatives and friends.

Mealtimes were praised by residents, one telling inspectors: “The food here is very good, they will always give you something else if you don’t like what is on the menu. The manager told me if I want more food I only have to ask.” The report notes that all staff were trained in line with recommended best practice guidance.

And care plans had been reviewed and updated to reflect people’s changing needs. Residents praised the home’s activities provision, one resident saying: “There are so many activities going on, you can always find something to do. They have a dementia cinema day and we go out on lots of outings.” Residents and staff were both complimentary about the home’s manager, one staff member saying: “I cannot speak highly enough of her. She is very involved in the residents’ care and welfare.”
