Kingsley in Bloom Competition Winners
Kingsley’s homes across the country took part in the competition to enhance their gardens. Daya and Sumi Thayan, co-founders of the Suffolk based company, and operations director Debbie McGovern judged the winner from a shortlist drawn up by operations managers. At Colne House, staff and residents devised a campfire theme with a planted campfire pot centrepiece. Sue Moreby, deputy manager at Colne House, said: “Everyone was so excited when they learned we had won. Staff, residents and their families had been asking about the result every day.”
She said they had used a colourful mix of flowers for their display, including marigolds, petunias, fuchsias and busy lizzies. “All the staff have been involved in the planting, including our maintenance man Jason Lowe who took care of the building side of it,” she said. “Residents grew some of the plants from seed and helped to plant them, along with family members.” Mrs Moreby said their £250 prize was going to be put towards further garden improvements, including a new seating area, for the benefit of residents. Homes were asked to create their displays on a number of themes, including Pots, pans and watering cans, All things edible, Best flowering bed and See, feel and smell. The runner-up in the contest was Eversley Nursing Home, in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, with third place going to Brooke House, near Norwich, Norfolk.
Ms McGovern said: “Staff and residents in all our homes made a fantastic effort in what was our first In Bloom competition.
