Take a peek inside £6million Partington home as Four Oaks welcomes its first residents

MessengerNews

PARTINGTON’S new £6million home has welcomed its first residents after opening its doors for the first time. Kingsley Healthcare's Four Oaks Care Home provides 62 residential luxury nursing and dementia care beds, specialising in dementia care. The home, which sits on the site of a former paint factory site on Wood Lane, opened in August and is in the process of moving residents in. The centre has a treatment room, where a GP will see residents twice a week. “Instead of dealing with several GPs and getting several prescriptions, it will simpler, with one GP and residents know exactly when they will be coming in,” said Debbie Cank, Kingsley’s operations manager for the North West. “We are a nursing home so we are additionally vigilant.” The huge sun room is already a hit with residents. It sits in the centre of the gardens, which are been dotted with planters for green-fingered residents to use.

“We wanted to maximise the space in the sunroom; it could have been a garden but we wanted to create a calm and relaxed place for residents to enjoy in all weather. We brought the outside in with butterflies and birds on curtains and walls – residents love it,” added Debbie. And the rooms are not ‘cookie cutter’ either. Each wing has a theme and has its own design concept and colour scheme; Transport, Garden, Retro and Music, and By the Seaside. Each wing is also equipped with its own kitchen and living area and all wings share a library, community cafe, cinema, hairdressers/nail bar and sun room. All bedrooms – which have traditional brightly-coloured front doors – are ensuite. Casper the dog, whose owner works at the home, comes in several days a week and residents have visits from animals from Zoo Lab and the Donkey Sanctuary to look forward to. “The residents love it,” said Debbie. “The smiles on the residents’ faces, it is just wonderful.”

And its newest residents are settling in just fine. Bernard Murtagh, 83, moved from Kingsley’s Timperley home to Partington to be closer to family. Bernard used to teach Hips and Hearts classes in Partington and has been encouraging staff to get active with some signature moves. “It’s like a dream,” said Bernard. “I have been really surprised.” Kingsley’s work with Trafford Council, National Careers Service and Your Housing Group has seen it so far support 30 people into employment. This figure is due to grow to at least 60, to meet the staffing needs of the new care home. More than 80 per cent of the new staff live in Partington, with the remaining from the local area. Four Oaks will become the centre for Kingsley’s training programmes and an apprenticeship scheme will be operated out of the home.
